Meet Dr. Samar
Biography
Dr. Samar is an accomplished cardiologist and the Director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging at Loma Linda VA Medical Center in Southern California, a role she has excelled in for over a decade. Her previous tenure as Chief of Cardiology at the Syracuse VA Medical Center in New York laid the foundation for her exceptional career.
At the Loma Linda VA, Dr. Samar has been pivotal in building a comprehensive cardiac imaging program, integrating advanced modalities such as Cardiac CT, MRI, PET, SPECT, and Echocardiography. She has led several innovative imaging initiatives, including the adoption of Cardiac PET for inflammation detection and PYP scans for amyloidosis diagnosis.
Dr. Samar’s collaborative efforts with Radiology and Electrophysiology led to the development of institutional protocols for MRI scanning in patients with both conditional and non-conditional implantable cardiac devices.
She has designed image acquisition protocols and developed training systems for cardiac technologists, ensuring the highest standards in imaging quality and safety.
Deeply committed to education, Dr. Samar has mentored numerous classes of cardiology fellows and also provides specialized training in Cardiac CT and CMR interpretation to radiology residents. She delivers didactic lectures in the Cardiac Imaging Lecture Series for cardiology fellows and has developed imaging curricula adopted by two local academic training programs.
Passionate about expanding access to multimodality cardiac imaging, Dr. Samar advocates for the integration of technology and artificial intelligence to enhance patient care. She is certified by the American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (ABAIM) and serves on the Loma Linda VA Informatics Committee, and also as a Subject Matter Expert for the VA Pathfinder program.
She is an active member of Innovation Health Services, a tele-cardiac imaging practice of cardiologists and radiologists that provides cardiac imaging expertise to healthcare institutions nationwide.
